CureYourBody.com is excited to announce the launch of
its new forums. The next several months will be critical to setting up the
forums the way you want them to be. So
if you feel we should add more categories or sub forums, please let us know.
We'll add sub forums on our own as well, if we feel a
large number of posts are being made on a specific topic. For example, "Colon Cleansing" was added as a sub forum to the Gastroenterology forum since there seems
to be a lot of posts for that specific subject.
My doctor mentioned that the reason why I have irregular menstruation and why I'm gaining weight is because of an imbalance in the production of estrogen in my body. She prescribed pills to regulate them, but until now, I'm still having problems. Was she wrong or is something else wrong with me?
A hormonal imbalance may help explain why the pounds dieters work so hard to lose come back so easily.
A new study suggests that our bodies have a hard time adjusting to weight loss and may activate internal systems to restore lost fat.
Body weight is regulated by a complex network of hormonal and metabolic systems. After weight loss, researchers say the body may interpret a newly svelte physique as deficient in the hormone leptin and jump-start processes to restore the body to its previous weight.
The key to finding a successful treatment for hormonal imbalance is a willingness to try different forms of hormones/supplementation. Experimenting with doses and different forms should be done under a licensed practitioner's supervision. Because each of us, as individuals, are unique with specific needs of treatment, requires the right combination of supplementation.
I can appreciate the concern for a young woman to be very apprehensive about estrogen control and so on. Perhaps you can go into other signs and symptoms you may be having as well as any hormonal evaluations you may have undertaken?
LH/FSH ratio
Progesterone
17-Hydroxyprogesterone
Glucose and Cholesterol Panel
DHEA-S
Estrone
Estradiol
Tesosterone (yes, women do make and sometimes have inappropriate levels here based on hormonal disarray)
Androstenedione
SHBG
Prolactin
TSH
Any pelvic ultrasounds you have undertaken?
Any other symptoms (outside of weight loss problems)? For example, any facial hair, history of estrogen-related cancers (i.e. - breast, uterine, colon).
I think this is a very appropriate discussion for this section, but you must understand that the differential diagnosis is large. If we are talking weight gain secondary to insulin resistance, we would consider: PCOS, HAIRAN Syndrome, Female Low-Androgen Syndrome, or even Diabetes mellitus or various prediabetic conditions.
If we are talking about normal variants, and we could be, progesterone is usually the hunger culprit responsible for increasing fluctuation in weight for people with normal progression menstrual cycles and irregularities.
In any event, I would like to embark on further exploration of this with you and am happy you have opted to share.
"Adrenal Fatigue" has NEVER been given credence to date within scientific literature (and with reason) as it is not as readily identifiable as that site would lead you to believe. If you plan to link things in, I would consider the source prior to posting.
