Calcium carbonate and calcium citrate are good forms of calcium supplements.

Hi,

A study on teenage girls showed that their bone density increased on calcium supplements alone, but this then reversed itself 2 years later. Therefore I would say that milk is substantially better and calcium tablets should remain as supplements.

I've heard that calcium tablets should be used only as a supplement, not a substitute. Nothing can replace the real thing.

The answer is a definite ‘no’. The calcium from milk and its products is far superior to that of calcium supplements or even other dietary sources.

Further, Milk and milk products like yogurt, cheese are good sources of many other nutrients as well. Therefore a diet devoid of dairy foods will often be inadequate, not just in respect to calcium but for many other nutrients as well. Calcium tablets can only be used as supplements and certainly not as a replacement for milk.

No, calcium tablets can never wholly replace milk, they should remain as supplements only.
