CureYourBody.com is excited to announce the launch of
its new forums. The next several months will be critical to setting up the
forums the way you want them to be. So
if you feel we should add more categories or sub forums, please let us know.
We'll add sub forums on our own as well, if we feel a
large number of posts are being made on a specific topic. For example, "Colon Cleansing" was added as a sub forum to the Gastroenterology forum since there seems
to be a lot of posts for that specific subject.
Looking for information on Hyperhidrosis and doctors in the U.S. I have had enough. Need help with facial/scalp Hyperhidrosis solutions. Have tried topical solutions. Has anyone got information on Sphenopalatine Ganglion Block?
Hyperhidrosis refers to excessive sweating. The amount that people sweat in response to the physiologic stimuli of heat, emotion, or eating varies greatly. The interaction of the person, the environment, and the emotions influences the amount of sweating. Many therapies have been used; several are effective, but some are associated with undesirable side effects.
Unfortunately, sweating is the result of eccrine glands which are EXOcrine in nature rather than endocrine.
Anyway, this is usually the result of hyper-stimulation to the autonomic nervous system (namely sympathetic) and could likely be best attributed to your own nature rather than anything else.
My husband sweats so much even with just little activity or when it is only slightly warm. He sweats A LOT! Does this indicate any illness? What can he do to prevent too much sweating?
Excessive sweating is not a danger to life but probably a social and psychological embarrassment but anti perspirant and taking a bath solves the problem.
Sometimes showering and deodorant are NOT enough! Have your husband try shaving his armpits (sounds creepy, but it helps) and talk to a dermatologist if it doesn't help. Also, I know a lot of people have been trying Botox injections with good results; it's supposed to stop sweating for 6 months to a year.

i think i saw that on tv too... the idea is to tighten the pores, and eventually prevent excessive sweating. please correct if my understanding is wrong.
Baking Soda may well help neutralize the sweat during the day, but it won't stop it altogether. Natural deoderants are the best way to go as they are the most effective in controlling sweating.
I see a lot of "deodorant" in this thread. What you need is not deodorant per se. The next time you buy deodorant, read the label and make sure that it says antiperspirant. Deodorant eliminates foul odor, antiperspirant prevents perspiration.
Excessive sweating is referred to as hyperhidrosis. Due to advancement in medicine, many forms of treatment are available to treat hyperhidrosis. Medications, topical antiperspirants, iontophoresis, botox and surgery have been tried to treat hyperhidrosis. Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy or ETS is the most effective method to treat hyperhidrosis.
There are also some medication that you can take, like aluminum chloride solution, anticholinergic drugs. But of course you have to check with your doctor first.
Also, if you are a bit overweight, you might have to lose a bit of it since obesity aggravates this condition
I guess over worked sweat glands are the cause. I think sometimes there could be a relation to emotional stress.
The most effective topical agent for use on the hands and the axillae is a 20% alcoholic solution of aluminum chloride hexahydrate. Botox has been used as well. And if its really bad, surgery should be considered.
i know men are supposed to sweat more than women, so should i be worried that i usually sweat like a pig when i'm outdoors even if im not doing any physical activity?
Excessive sweating isn't life-threatening, but it can threaten your quality of life.
No one can say how much sweat is "too much." There's really no effective and convenient way to measure the total amount of sweat.
Excessive sweating is instead defined as any amount of sweating that causes problems or distress. The exact causes aren't known, but from 1% to 3% of people suffer from hyperhidrosis.
Hyperhidrosis usually starts in adolescence or young adulthood. Sweating is worst in the palms, soles, or armpits. When excessive sweating is limited to these areas, it's called focal hyperhidrosis.
Most people with focal hyperhidrosis are otherwise completely healthy. Studies suggest that they are no more nervous or easily upset than people who sweat normally.
